Resources for Parents

At Tutor With Mrs D, we believe that learning doesn’t stop when the tutoring session ends. As a parent, you play a vital role in your child’s education. That’s why we’ve curated a collection of resources to help you support your child’s academic progress, especially when it comes to reading.

Reading Tips for Parents

Helping your child improve their reading skills at home can be simple and enjoyable. Here are a few tips to get started:

  • Read Together Daily: Set aside time each day to read with your child, whether it’s a chapter from a book or a short article. This strengthens their reading fluency and builds a love for reading.

  • Ask Questions While Reading: Encourage your child to think critically by asking questions like “What do you think will happen next?” or “Why did the character do that?”

  • Build Vocabulary: Use flashcards or fun games to introduce new words. The more words your child knows, the more confident they will be in their reading.

Educational Websites and Apps

These free or low-cost online resources can help your child practice reading and other subjects in an interactive way:

  • Starfall: A great website for younger children to practice phonics and reading through fun activities.

  • Epic!: Offers a vast library of digital books for kids of all ages to read online.

  • Khan Academy Kids: Free educational games and activities that focus on reading, writing, and math.
